my boyfriend is teaching me how to play the banjo.  it has always been one of my very favorite instruments, and since it has open tuning, it is not incredibly difficult to learn.  as you can see, ruger has become a little banjo lover as well.

this is the official pose for the cover of the highly anticipated record entitled the joie and ruger family homegrown vintage, variety and banjo hour.

outfit details: grey moleskin skirt is vintage; lavender silk sweater is express; purple tights are we love colors; platform shoes are steve madden; snake necklace is thrifted; rings are silpada; banjo is an 1890’s washburn

song inspiration: “paranoia in b flat major” by the avett brothers.  for a post such as this one i have to call out a song with good banjo, don’t you think?  and the avett brothers have good banjo in almost all of their songs.  “new-grass” is what the kids are calling it, i believe.  love these guys.

I freaking love the Avetts too. My favorite band by far. I inherited a banjo-like instrument (honestly I forget what it is called, no one could tell me and I had to track down a music teacher at a local university to figure out the name, which I obviously should have written down). I’ve always wanted to play it but never really got around to learning.

Kudos to you for taking on the banjo, lady. I look forward to your debut EP.

COVETING that necklace, by the bye.

As a fellow Chicagoan who also loves banjos, purple, and the Avett Bros, I’m a big fan of this post. And that necklace? AMAZING.
